Hello and Salam, I'm Hamza!
A Pakistani product designer and solutions consultant based in Austin, Texas. My experience working at the intersection of design systems, brand identity and visual design comes with the passion of creating beautifully engineered products and experiences that has impact at scale.
Originally a Computer Science major 👨🏽💻, my journey into design began in my second year when I was experimenting with 3D rendering using Blender for a small project. My laptop did not have a graphic card, so an 8 second animation would take 36 hours to render. However, the end product brought a smile to the crowd of 150 sitting at the auditorium. That was the spark 💡 that motivated me to study further into the field of design.
I took Human-Computer Interaction and Technology Entrepreneurship out of curiosity in my final year where the concepts and methodologies inspired me to pursue product design as full time commitment. My career lifted off 🚀when I landed UI developer job at Pakistan's largest leasing software company, NetSol, setting the precedence for the knowledge and experience I seeked to further my skills. In 2018-9, I pursued a masters in the US from Stony Brook to solidify my skills in UX design.
I have always gravitated towards the technology industry because of its ability to have a positive impact at scale. During the past 4 years, I have discovered that working collaboratively with teams on projects has proven to be source of fulfillment for me. I love visual story telling as it has allowed me to share technical knowledge in digestible bite-sized pieces so every stakeholder can understand the value of the information.
I believe design is a must-have conversation when building a system whether it is a technology to be shipped to consumers or a policy that is impacting society. That means, finding the right balance between data-driven analysis and compassion for human needs.
Discussing trade-offs involved in making design decisions is an activity that I thoroughly enjoy. While solutions can be aesthetically pleasing, functionality is equally significant. Users come from various backgrounds as well calling for inclusivity and accessibility to be considered, that requires a deep understanding of human psychology. Thinking of all such parameters leads to real-world impact on the overall experience of the product.
My unique perspective, versatility and approaching problems with an open mind allows me to create elegant, ethical and useful solutions.
The following books have been key source of information in advancing my knowledge in product design, behavioural thinking and UX. The list is always growing.
